Also called the egg diet, this fast weight loss diet plan has its origins in the U.S. Mayo Nutrition Clinic.

The Mayo diet lasts for 14 days and it is a severe diet, very restrictive and low in calories (between 800 and 1,000 calories a day). For people who want to lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks by altering metabolism, this is the diet for you:

MONDAY:

Breakfast: A cup of coffee or tea + 1 cube of sugar.

Lunch: 2 boiled eggs (hard), 1 tomato, and 10.5 oz of cooked spinach.

Dinner: 7 oz of roast beef, lettuce with oil and lemon.

TUESDAY:

Breakfast: A cup of coffee or tea + 1 cube of sugar and a biscuit.

Lunch: 9 oz ham and a jar of natural yoghurt.

Dinner: 7 oz of beef steak, green salad with oil and lemon.

WEDNESDAY:

Breakfast: A cup of coffee + 1 cube of sugar and a slice of toast.

Lunch: 2 boiled eggs (hard), 1 slice of ham and salad.

Dinner: Vegetable soup without meat, light cheese and a fresh fruit.

THURSDAY:

Breakfast: A cup of coffee or tea + 1 cube of sugar and a biscuit.

Lunch: 1 boiled egg (hard), carrots, tomatoes, 1.5 oz cheese.

Dinner: A bowl of fruit salad without sugar or 1 yogurt.

FRIDAY:

Breakfast: 1 shaved carrot and tomato with lemon juice.

Lunch: 9 oz of lightly boiled fish with lemon and a tomato.

Dinner: 7 oz of roast beef with celery.

SATURDAY:

Breakfast: A cup of coffee or tea + 1 cube of sugar.

Lunch: half a chicken baked with lettuce and lemon.

Dinner: 2 boiled eggs (hard), a bowl of carrots and 1 tomato.

SUNDAY:

Breakfast: A cup of coffee or tea + 1 cube of sugar and a biscuit.

Lunch: 2 boiled eggs (hard), a boiled celery and a fresh fruit.

Dinner: All the protein you want, no sweets, no bread or alcohol.
