Natural Hemorrhoid Remedies

Hemorrhoids are also called piles, they are the swelling of the veins around the rectum. They cause itching in a rather delicate place where you cannot scratch in public. They can be painful and sometimes they cause bleeding. This can be a potentially embarrassing condition, but realize that you are not alone, by some estimates, approximately 75% of people in the U.S.A. have hemorrhoids sometime after age 30. There are several things you can do to reduce or even eliminate your hemorrhoids. The first is to drink apple cider vinegar after meals. This improves digestion, lessens constipation, and shrinks hemorrhoids. Apply the bark of witch hazel externally two-three times a day. Lesser celandine, also known as pilewort, can be applied. Butcher’s broom root used with vitamin C will help shrink hemorrhoids. Other herbs that will help with hemorrhoids are olive leaf extract, aloe, marshmallow, catmint, horsetail, chickweed, calendula, centella, birch sap, rose hip, white lily, and gotu kola.

More conventional hemroid treatment solutions are the creams, lotions and ointments that can be found at the pharmacy. Many of these are over-the-counter remedies. Unfortunately, one of the reasons these over-the-counter remedies sell so well is that they are only temporary stopgaps. The swelling, bleeding and itching will return, necessitating the purchase of more creams, lotions and ointments.

Medical intervention can be more permanent. Rubber bands can be wrapped around the hemorrhoid, causing the blood supply to be cut off. After several days, the hemorrhoid dies and can be cut off. An infrared laser can be used to cut off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid. It may take five or six treatments for the entire hemorrhoid to become bloodless. A hemorrhoidectomy is a last-ditch treatment for stubborn hemorrhoids. Unfortunately, many people who have had this treatment suffer incontinence later in life. The natural herb remedies advertised on the web may be a better choice for you if you have the embarrassment of hemorrhoids but always be sure to consult a doctor before starting any treatment option, even an herbal one.
