Colon cleansing has recently been advertised as an excellent way of ridding the human body of toxins. Moreover, weight loss is also associated with intestinal cleansing. From a scientific view, it is possible to shed weight by clearing out the bowels. The amount of weight that will be lost is highly individualized. Incorporating colon cleanses should be done intelligently; some products may do more harm than good. Having said this, there are a few recipes that have been developed as an affordable, alternative means to pre-made store formulations.   The first of these is the salt water flush recipe.

Salt Water Flush

1 qt purified water
2 tsp salt (sea salt recommended)
Lemon or lime concentrate (optional)

Mix the above ingredients together. The liquid may be served cold or hot. It is advisable to drink this beverage first thing in the morning. Expect thirty-minutes to pass before any effects are felt. Cramping may occur.

Next up, we have the cayenne pepper cleanse, which also goes by the name of the Master Cleanse or Lemonade diet.

Cayenne Pepper Cleanse

24 oz water
3 oz maple syrup
3 oz lemon juice
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Blend all ingredients together. If preferred, a different citrus drink may be exchanged for the lemon juice. Serve heated or chilled.

Grade B maple syrup is suggested as it is a superior blend. Health food stores generally carry this type of syrup. However, if this particular grade cannot be found, chosing a brand that states 100% maple is a respectable substitute. Maple syrup is full of minerals which compliment the cayenne’s effect on the body.

Opting to perform a colon cleanse is not something that should be taken lightly. For five to ten days straight nothing else is to be consumed. At the end of this time period, however, less toxins will be in the body and a few pounds will have been lost. In addition, mental clarity should be improved. Every person may experience slightly different results.
